…requires a total of approximately 60 square feet of wood?

I’ve just designed a fairly unique coffee table and with all the pieces (approx 28 pcs.), the total square footage of wood that I would need in order to build it would be around 50-60 sq. ft.

Sorry, I’m not going to tell you or show you what it’s going to look like because I might want to be able to sell the design one day.

[I know, I asked this question before, but I did the math wrong :s]

A basic panel table (inverted “U” design) 3′d x 5′w x 1.5′h requires about 52sq ft of surface lumber. That is not an overly large coffee table when placed in front of a 78″ sofa.

type of decor for matchstick blinds?

I always thought that matchstick blinds were for a tropical or Asian look, but I saw them placed in a family room that I thought was tradtional looking. It had leaf green painted walls, a leather chair and matching ottoman with an off white shabby chic sofa and a turned leg tradtional coffee table . The room also was loaded with windows so I kind of think it was a finished breezeway or a sun room. The question is…..are matchstick blinds appropriate with traditional furniture? I did not think this room was particularly tropical because it had no plants.

Matchstick blinds are always a good bet in tropical themed rooms.

But, the trend now is to mix it up a bit. Take that traditional room and give it a casual twist.

I would suggest that the blinds not be the only window covering. Using fabric draperies at least as side panels, will soften the blinds and add a touch of elegance to the room.

Book of stories about women of different riding disciplines, older?

when i was young, I’d check out this book, a larger coffee table type book. It had lots of photos, and featured a stunt rider, i think a barrel racer, a mexican rider, and others. Only problem is I cannot remember what its called! The book must be at least 20 years old. now that I am more mature I would like to actually READ the stories of the women! I remeber the stunt woman worked on the film International Velvet.

I wonder if this could be Mary Steenwyck’s _Rodeo_. It is not a coffee table book, I think, but it’s a 1978 book, illustrated w. photos, w. biographical sketches of eight women riders. And it’s classified as juvenile literature. If you’d like to see the book cover, one of the many online places to buy it (for next to nothing!) does show that, and it could job your memory if that’s the one. I show that link below. Good luck! Just today I found a book from MY childhood on eBay, one whose name I did not at first remember!

love seat & arm chair or loveseat & recliner? ?

My living room is small, I have a glass top coffee table, a rattan loveseat and rattan wing chair in blue fabric that has some flowers in it. The fabric is faded. I just purchased a loveseat in dark brown leather to replace the rattan loveseat since it’s more worn out. I am wondering if I should replace the arm chair as well and what would be a good replacement? I have found a dark blue plaid recliner but it has a skirt and the legs are hidden. Should I go with this or look for another chair that has exposed legs. Do leather and rattan look good together? What colors go well with dark brown. I look through craigslist and garage sales so I need ideas to help me work with whatever I find! Thank you

I personally think recliners are a decorating no-no. That is the worst fight my husband & I have ever gotten into! He wanted a Lazy Boy – yuck!

We compromised on a reclining leather club chair with an ottoman. I put a link below to one that is similar to the one we bought (not exactly the same b/c we bought ours at a local furniture store).

You said you have a dark brown leather loveseat, so you might want to look into an upholstered reclining club chair, so it’s not too matchy-matchy.

Accents to go with my living room?

Hello, I have a little bit of a problem, I have NO sense of style lol…Anyways, in my living room I have lighter wood floors with chocolate brown couches. What can I do with an antique trunk?

I have an old foot locker/trunk from WWII that I would like to turn into a coffee table or display in the house. Any suggestions on what to do and how to do it? Thanks!!

That’s is a gem. You could put a thick glass top, on it an turn it into a coffee table. An corner rounded, square glass surface would be ideal. Leave it bare so guests can see through the glass. Do not make a large overhang as it can easily topple over. Before putting on the Glass surface, place four pieces of rubber blocks on the top of the trunk. Make sure they are enough to allow a wobble free top. Place another similar sized one in the middle. You could use clear silicon rubber pieces. This is for soaking up vibration or strain that might be.

If you leave the top free of any covering , the foot locker may become a talking point. If the trunk is not heavy enough, place some large metal pieces inside the trunk to make it a stable base.
