Suppose that you want to blend two coffees in order to obtain a new blend. The blend will be made with the?
best Arabica beans that sell for $9.00 per pound and select African Robustas that sell for $11.50 per pound to obtain 100 pounds of the new blend. The new blend will sell for $10.00 per pound and there will be no difference in revenue from selling the new blend versus selling the beans separately. How many pounds of the Arabica and Robusta beans are required?
60 lbs. Arabica and 40 lbs African Robustas. First, make 2 formulas.
X + Y = 100 (X lbs. of Arabica beans plus Y lbs. of African Robustas equals 100 pounds per blend)
9X + 11.50Y = 1000 ($9/lb of Arabica plus $11.50/lb of African Robustas equals $1000/blend (which, remember is 100 pounds, sold at $10/pound).
use the first equation to solve for the second
X = 100 – Y
9*(100 – Y) + 11.50Y = 1000
900 – 9y + 11.50y = 1000
900 + 2.50y = 1000
2.50y = 100
y = 100/2.50 = 40
Now plug 40 back in for Y (either equation – both will work)
X + 40 = 100
X = 100 – 40 = 60.
Plug both X & Y back into other equation to check
9 * 60 + 11.5 * 40 = 1000
540 + 460 = 1000
1000 = 1000 … yep, you’re good

What is a practial approach to preserve nature and the planet in your opinion?
Going out of your way to buy eco friendly products like shade grown coffee, recycled materials. Spending some time cleaning up waste, and hazards you notice in your area. Setting up your environment to where it is friendly to as much life as possible. Saving wild animals. Clearing and replanting trees to where devastating forest fires do not occur. (Believe it or not human habitat has made forest fires more devastating to the environment by fighting fires and changing layouts than good) Hunting predator animals, and others who become over populated and imbalance the food chain, conserve water. etc?
Who do you think is really more consciece and stewardly regarding the environment?
I take smaller breaths, wait till it rains and take my showers outside, um set bricks in the sun all day for warmth so I dont contribute to global warming or use oxygen by starting a fire at night, lower my body temp so i dont give off as much heat and finally, I quit doing strenuous activities so I dont break a sweat and offset the moisture levels (I guess that goes along with lower body temp and less breathing tho) ..

I don’t own a coffee grinder, so I order my espresso ground already. It normally comes in very hard(freeze dried??) bricks. When I received via UPS the coffee bricks the other day, one of the four bags was really soft. I was told that would not make the espresso stale; sometimes that happens in shipping/handling. Also told only way it would be stale, would be if coffee was leaking out of bag. Is this true? I was under the impression the coffee brick staying really rock hard is what kept it from becoming stale. (I do know coffee can begin the “stale” process immediately after being ground, but it is still much, much tastier than store bought coffee/espresso). Thanks in advance.
Your coffee brick bag is soft because it is no longer sealed air tight. The length of time it’s been soft effects freshness. Coffee needs to be sealed so it won’t go stale or absorb odors.
