I purchase whole beans from purveyors I trust. I find supermarket brands are way sub-par, weak and stale. Vienna Roast mixed half ‘n half with Colombian Supremo is my personal ‘house mix’.
Use enough coffee in each batch to make strong coffee – if you can see the bottom of the cup it’s weak!
Sometimes chain stores like Starbucks, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, or individual coffee roaster stores will have the best beans. Supermarkets do not – if you don’t start with the great beans you’ll have crap coffee. Maxwell House to me is crap.
I have an inexpensive grinder I use before each batch in the morning. Grinding beans takes 2O seconds and is well worth it!
As far as your Braun goes, follow their instructions. If it’s new you may not get the best coffee until finding out your personal ratio of beans to H2O!

The way we do it every Christmas is to put the regular amount of sugar you would usually use in the coffee. The trick we always use is to put a couple of sticks of cinnamon on the grounds BEFORE the coffee brews so the hot water steeps the cinnamon on its way to the coffee! It’s fantastic that way!
