Coffee connoisseurs: I have a grinder and a machine. Now what?
I was instructed to get a burr grinder and a maker. Now I have them, but I’m not sure about what kind of coffee to get. How do I tell if beans are already roasted? Does it make a difference? I have some beans that I bought a year ago; are they still good? See, I thought that the benefit of getting a grinder was that I could buy whole beans and they would last a lot longer than the pre-ground bags that I had been getting. Was I mistaken? Do beans go bad, too? What is the benefit of having a grinder?
no your right , whole beans will last a lot longer being whole , when you grind them you break up the hard outer kernel that protects all the coffee beans flavor inside. roasted beans are always a brown color , fresh coffee beans come in green and red varieties and don’t become brown until they are slowly roasted for color and flavor. a grinder is a great thing to have . yes beans go bad after about a year , I would buy some new fresh roasted beans for a great cup of coffee.

its a cs 100 (cafe swiss). its a beans to cup espresso maker that no longer seems to pump the water through to the compression part. It produces hot water and steam through the milk frother but when i try a rinse cycle it buzzes for a second or two but no water comes through.

I have a Rancilio single group coffee machine. Nearly always the first shot I make spits out of the filter and is bitter and unusable with no crema. The second one is nearly always perfect. I have the right grinder setting, amount in the filter, correct pressure, etc. Could it be too hot or something? This doesn’t happen on more “professional” machines I use. Anyone have this problem or know how to solve it? I’m sick of wasting coffee! Cheers.
