It is usually 1 Tbsp for every two cups, so that would make it 6 Tbsp of coffee for the 12 cups. You should do a trial pot before though, because it all comes down to your own preference and the type of coffee that you are using...good luck on your party tonight! :)

I would say temper it to your taste, but definitely use less. because the coffee is ground finer there is more surface area exposed to the water so more flavor is extracted from the coffee. depending on the coffee and your personal taste this can be a good or bad thing. it most likely will make your coffee taste bitter since the grinds are in contact with water for a longer time than if you were brewing it with an espresso maker. I would either get a stove top espresso maker (relatively cheap) or junk that coffee and get something ground for your type of machine. Ideally, you will get your best cup of coffee if you buy whole beans and get a grinder and grind just what you need right before you brew it.

For those that normally drink coffee, it's actually very good for your heart. The blood pressure is different. Give your blood pressure a check.

vinegar works OK, but it STINKS! mr. coffee sells cleaner packets in the small appliance section of target, walmart, etc. put the cleaner in the pot, fill with water, put it in the resevior, and run it thru your machine as if you were making a pot of coffee. it says on the package, but i think you need to run clear water thru 2 or 3 times after. also, after your coffee maker "brews" the cleaner, don't just dump it out. leave some in your pot and scrub the inside of the pot with that solution to remove stains that build up.
