End Tables And Coffee Tables
OK THIS TIME IT’S RIGHT! I hope…I need help choosing wood color for end tables/coffee table/armoire?
We have one of those “great rooms” where the kitchen, dining area, and living room are all in one big space. Therefore, when you are in the living room you are looking into the kitchen and vice versa.
My question is: should my coffee table/end tables/tv armoire that are in the living room match the kitchen cabinets?
The kitchen cabinets are maple, the hardwood floor is tiger wood (brownish-orangish with black streaks), and our couches are maroonish (I hate their color but oh well).
Would it look best to have the coffee table etc. be a maple color? Or would it be ok to have them be that dark brown/black – sometimes called expresso? What would look better? I do not have an eye for this, so please help!
Oh and the walls will be a camel/light brown, with one kitchen wall being chocolate brown. The red wall in the picture will not be red.

I’m not into design professionally, but I do like reading up on it. So just take my thoughts as you would from a friend, not someone who knows about this stuff!
I think it depends on your personal preference, and what you’re trying to say with this room. Do you want to treat it as “one great big space” or try to create a distinction between the zones?
If you like the idea that it’s one big space and you want to maximize that continuity, then you can let all the furniture match. I personally like big airy rooms. But even then, you wouldn’t be limited to matchy-matchy furniture.
But it seems to be the trend to break up a big room and treat it as smaller ones based on the activities taking place in each area. Most designers would probably stick a screen, open bookshelf, or some other kind of divider between the two zones to make the spaces seem more intimate. That way, you’ve created two separate rooms and you can create whatever kind of furniture themes you want for each space.
By the way, you have a pretty space there! I kind of like the red, but I understand the appeal of neutrals. Hope you enjoy your redecorating project!
